( A thought crosses her mind staring up at the man who pins her… Dimitri’s lips are warm. They are chapped, cracked and in need of tender loving care but he is alive and they aren’t cold. He is not a corpse. The king is alive, he lives and breathes yet still. She remembers the day he lunged at her, violent in his way, a pain lingered in his eyes that Edelgard knew well. That day in the Holy Tomb she doesn’t think he wanted to survive, he only wanted to take her with him. Drag her down into his Hell where they both could stay, the pain finally subsiding. To become free of his shackles, to know death’s embrace…
She wonders what is going through his thoughts today. The woman that once made him feel like dying…does she now give him a reason to live? Is everything in their lives a misunderstanding? Is the line between love and hate truly so thin?
Something finalizes for her at this moment and she needs to tell him. He deserves to know what his world choses to keep from him. His revenge tortures him in ways he can barely stand. His mind creates illusions, it picks at what remains of his soul and wishes to destroy him. She can only imagine what he sees in the mirror. Edelgard knows because she’s been there, staring face to face with the dead. She was left behind, busted and broken… scared and alone. You make promises to the dead in hopes that words come back to your throat. That the tears stop and you somehow manage to swallow your pain. She feels an empathy she once thought she couldn’t feel for Dimitri in this moment that they share…
For a moment she considers telling him right then and there before the sounds of snickering can be heard from above, stopping Edelgard’s heart dead in its tracks. )
See, I told you they were both down there. Don’t you go and ruin this for me, Shady-lady. It’s not every day we get such fine entertainment.
( They were far from alone it seems. Edelgard peers around Dimitir’s hulking frame the best she can. The Ashen Wolve’s leader can be made out from the edge of the railing, looking down at the two of them spread out on the not-so-private furniture. He was talking to someone from the sound of things. Knowing the people saw them like this embarrass her beyond belief, wiggling as she tries to free herself from Dimitri’s hold.
All the commotion separates the two lords, the following shenanigans ensure and return them to the surface. It seems Hubert could only entertain Constance for so long as she had used her cursed magic on him and he was but pocket sized when she returned him to his lady. That poor man’s heart surely can’t take much more than this. Thankfully he reverted back soon after. It reminds Edelgard that she owns more than just Dimitri her time with everything that has been going on… Hubert and her friends deserve an explanation for her actions. Not to mention, the elephant in the room known as Duke Riegan, who terrifies her in a way. He’s far smarter and so much more cunning than Dimitir, and teacher favors him all the same. What will he want now that they aren’t allowed to play war? She can’t help but worry about Claude getting to Dimitri as well.
When they return to the dining hall he stays glued to Edelgard’s side, making it once again impossible to talk with anyone. She favors it this way… Teacher doesn’t seem active in trying to separate them despite the dirty looks Dimitri’s friends give her when they approach him in attempts to speak more privately with their former and hopefully future king. Dedue seems fine with sitting quietly next to Dimitri while he leans over Edelgard but Felix does not. He stroms up to the table and slams his fits down, frustrated with their situation… )
“This is enough! Are you going to play victim and let everyone else do all the work while you become lovely-dovey with your dumb girlfriend. Did you forget she is the reason we’ve been at war this entire time? Are you even listening, boar?!”
( Edelgard opens her mouth to speak but Dimitri answers first: )
